Opt-In - Capturing Email Marketing Consent

To support our clients in building qualified contact lists in compliance with communication best practices, Cangooroo has developed a new feature for the booking checkout flow.

It is now possible to capture passenger consent for receiving marketing offers and communications in a systemic and traceable manner. This new feature meets an important market demand, launched in partnership with Outlet de Passagens, to separate the mandatory acceptance of Terms and Conditions from optional marketing consent.

How Does the Feature Work?

With this update, the booking engine now supports sending and recording the opt-in (acceptance) choice for marketing communications.

At checkout (front-end), a new optional checkbox can be displayed below the mandatory terms of use acceptance. The Cangooroo system will record this choice and link it directly to the booking.

Key Features and Business Rules

  • Lead Passenger Focus: Consent (accepted or declined) is recorded and linked exclusively to the lead passenger (holder) of each service in the booking. Accompanying passengers do not receive this flag.

  • Cross-Product Functionality: Consent capture works regardless of the service type booked. Whether it is a Hotel, Transfer, Insurance, Cruise, or multi-service shopping cart, the rule applies and is saved for the lead passenger of each module.

  • Non-Blocking Flow: The field is 100% optional. If the passenger leaves the option unchecked, or if the booking comes from a legacy integration that does not send this data, the sale is completed normally and the system defaults the status to "not accepted" (false).

  • High Resilience: System priority remains conversion. Any isolated instability in recording marketing consent will neither prevent nor revert booking confirmation.

  • Simple Querying: Consent information (whether accepted or declined) is clearly recorded and can be verified in the standard Booking Details query within the Cangooroo system.

  • Privacy and Security: Access to this data respects your operator's scope (ownership). You will have exclusive access to consent data for your own bookings, ensuring full privacy and data security.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What happens to bookings made before this update? For all past bookings in system history, the field will default to "not accepted", ensuring no inconsistencies when querying historical data.

  2. Does this change affect the purchase approval flow? No. The mechanism was designed to have zero impact on the mandatory checkout flow. The booking proceeds normally, with or without marketing consent.

  3. How do I find this information in the API? Consent is recorded in the booking details (GetBookingDetail), along with the Pax information. It can be found under the tag "AcceptMarketingEmail"
